Odyssey Sims continues to prove her worth for the Los Angeles Sparks.
After bouncing between teams on hardship contracts, the veteran guard officially signed a one-year deal with the Sparks just before the start of the season. Since then, Sims has shown no signs of slowing down.
Averaging over 29 minutes per game, she's scored in double figures in three of the Sparks' last seven outings—reminding the league of her steady presence and on-court impact.
Though the team is still searching for consistency, Sims remains optimistic that a breakthrough is near. “Everybody's close. We all love each other. You can see every game we're getting better," she said.
Head coach Lynne Roberts echoes that sentiment. While the record may not reflect it, she believes the team is developing chemistry and resilience with each contest. “It is still learning one another and what as a group we respond to and as individuals,” Roberts explained.
Coach Roberts has been vocal about the importance of Sims' return, praising her veteran leadership, physicality, and improved shooting.
“Bringing Odyssey back to the Sparks is an important move for our franchise,” Roberts said. “O’s toughness, athleticism, and tremendous WNBA experience will provide a critical boost.”
For Sims, that praise underscores how far she’s come—not just as a player, but as a teammate. “It has nothing to do with just offense. It has nothing to do with just defense,” she said. “I’m a great teammate now. I came a long way. Thank God for growth.”
Her leadership and perspective are anchored by her history with the Sparks. Sims spent two consecutive seasons in Los Angeles from 2017 to 2018, averaging 8.9 points and 3.1 assists over 65 games, including 38 starts.
In 2017, she played a pivotal role in the Sparks’ run to the WNBA Finals, where she averaged 14.8 points per game and logged 33 or more minutes in every matchup of the five-game series.
For Sims, returning to the franchise is more than just a second chance—it’s a validation of her work ethic and perseverance.
“It feels good that all my hard work is finally paying off.”
